What never leaves your browser
Your word list and your kept sentences are stored by the extension in Chrome's own local storage. They are not uploaded, not backed up by us, and not readable by us. Uninstalling the extension deletes them.
Tuttu does not read a page until you switch it on for that page, and it never sends a whole page anywhere.
What is sent to us, and why
- The sentence or the words you asked about. Sending them is the only way to translate them. They are sent with the two language codes and nothing else — no URL, no page title, no identifier of the page you were on.
- Your email address, because an account is how a subscription knows who it belongs to. We use it to send sign-in codes and, rarely, to tell you something about your subscription. No marketing email.
- A count of words translated per day, which is how the 50-word daily free allowance is enforced. It is a number, not a list.
Translations are stored and shared
A translated sentence is kept in a shared store, keyed by the text and the language pair, so that the next reader who meets the same sentence gets the same answer without paying for it again. That store is not linked to any account: it records the text and its translation, never who asked.
This is worth being plain about, because it is a real trade. Do not use Tuttu on text you would not want stored — a private document, a message from someone else, anything confidential.
Who else sees it
- OpenRouter, and through it the model provider, receives the text to be translated.
- Stripe handles payment. Card details go to Stripe directly and never reach us.
- Cloudflare hosts the service and delivers the sign-in emails.
Nothing is sold, and there is no advertising or analytics tracking in the extension.
Deleting your account
Email us and we will delete the account, its email address and its subscription record. Cached translations are not deleted, because they are not yours — they are not linked to you and would be identical if any other reader had asked.
